    Hi!
    Since there's been a great increase of new mappers in the Hot Pursuit arena, I've decided to make this tutorial, in order to help anyone interested in creating something new for the room.

    Please, keep in mind that making a HP map might seen easy, but it requires quite knowledge of the game-mode in order to make a fair/enjoyable track. In this tutorial, I'm going to explain them to you.

    And there is no better way to do this if not showing you step by step, let's get started!

    Basics of Hot Pursuit

    Hot Pursuit is very similar to Race in many ways. Although, there are some differences:

    -There MUST be 25 Racer spawn-points and 25 Police spawn-points.
    -The track must have at least more than 1 single checkpoint, in order to prevent runners.
    -Maps without decoration don't get accepted.

    With those principles in mind, let's start out map

    SPAWN-POINTS

    We need 25 Police spawns and 25 Racer spawns, but always keep in mind that there must be a sense of FAIRNESS on this. Don't put Infernus racers against LV Cop Cars. The teams gotta have balanced cars in order to give both of them, the chance to win the round.

    Here is a list with all the cop vehicles in the game:

    Cop Vehicles

    If you use any other vehicle that isn't in this list, it will be automatically a Race vehicle. HP don't requires scripts. Just place 25 of those vehicles and 25 of racer vehicles.

    Hot Pursuit have the Ghostmode in OFF, so, we gotta create maps that don't make racers feel like they are in a DD match. For Spawn-points, pick large-open areas, to give them the space to start the map in peace, and then, start to pass the others in the middle of the race.
    This parking lot is perfect for racers.
    In this example, I will give all the racers a Sultan, it's quite agile and fast, but not enough to outrun cops. Perfectly fair for us.
    Now, place the 25 spawn-points in fair positions, that don't make em crash like hell, and that keep a certain distance of the first checkpoint:

    The cops also have 25 spawn-points, but you can be even more creative with them, since you have the freedom to put them anywhere. Just don't put them very close to the spawn-point/first checkpoint.
    You can put different vehicles for cops in your map, like Police cars, bikes and helicopters, just be fair and think about racers too:

    THE TRACK

    As I've said, we are working with Ghost-mode OFF, so, place the first-second-third checkpoints with a large size, to let the first wave of racers pass without problem and allowing them to fight for the first place like a racer, not like a DD player. Be creative with the track, put checkpoints in positions that allow multiple routes to get from one CP to the other:

    Please, Hot Pursuit ain't Race, so, don't make long straight maps. Make maps with lots of curves and circles around blocks, to give the cops a chance to cut the track and bust someone. Here is an example:

    Nice tracks aren't too long neither too short. Keep in mind that every round in HP have 5 Minutes Max! So, make a 2-3 minutes map to be good enough for everyone.
    Hot Pursuit allows racers to fix their blown tires from the cops by getting Repair icons on the track. So, place them creatively, not all around to track. Otherwise, cops will hardly win.

    ATTENTION:
    NEVER, put checkpoints in small-one way areas, like alleys. This gives the cops the chance to camper there, and make the map unplayable!

    DECORATION

    HP isn't like DM or other arenas, you can't place loops here. However, you can make creative decorations like in the Race arena. Using thematic of any kind.
    Using police decoration is always nice, to give the racers and cops a more immerse feeling, like a roadblock before a checkpoint, giving the idea that the racer gotta make a curve due to the block:

    Remember: Vehicles are in Ghost-mode OFF, so, you have the freedom to place them all around the map, making them useful roadblocks and obstacles. Be creative!

    Just type "barrier" or "stinger" to get spikes and other police-like stuff to put them in your map.
    Sky is the limit for creativity, so make something fun and new for the arena.

    Well, I believe I've told you all the basics to make an enjoyable Hot Pursuit map. Please keep all those principles in mind and don't forget to play HP before creating a map in order to feel how the game is.

    Thank you for reading and showing interest in our arena. I will keep updating this tutorial as the time passes by and updates changes it.
    Best regards
    Lion

    Great Job man, i was thinkin to do it sometime.. but you got much more experience on mapping
    anyway you missed some settings, on map settings-gamemode
    ghostmode = false
    respawntime = 0
    duration = 300 (5 minutes) 240(4 min) etc
    respawn = none
    i dont know if this is important ,but i always used these on my maps so i shared them

    Haha it's ok man, but you don't need to put those settings, the FFS server does it automatically for you!
    Just remember to always put the Game-mode on Race, and your job is done ^.^

    I can't agree with this, mappers shouldn't place spikes on their maps, this causes a lot of confusion, not only for new players on the arena, even constant players have issue, they do not know which stingers are "real" and which are not. Players often decide to stop and search the other way (in most cases they start running), because everyone is afraid to go ahead.

    Well Elton, it's just a tip which I wanted to share, cause I enjoy Police-like decoration a lot. It's fine not to have the same tastes, but as long as the mappers don't put them on places we will pass over when racing, it's ok ^^
